Holistic learning
Classical education tends to embrace holistic learning that encompasses the entire individual - not only academics, but also fine arts, physical fitness, and practical arts. If the goal of classical education is the formation of virtue and wisdom in a life, it does so by touching on every aspect of that life.
Classical tools
In the elementary years, classical tools include repetition, memorization, copywork, and imitation, with a lot of emphasis on building a strong foundation before moving on to other things. As students get older, these tools change to include debate, analysis, and more advanced conversations, research, and Socratic discussion. And in both the early and later years, the written word is paramount. However, the tools are not the essence of classical education. The real meat of classical education is what it contains and offers to students.
